starting over

Monday morning I brought a new disk for my laptop.
I got a Toshiba MK8026GAX drive, 80GB @5400rpm, 16MB buffer cache to susbistute my default 40GB Hitachi @4200rpm.

For the first time I’ve opened my laptop (an Acer TM803LMi), reinstalled windows [i need it for some work stuff] and now I’m slowly re-installing & configuring the Linux part.

I did save some preferences, but unfortunately I’ve overwrited some files as root and now I’m getting packages from the repos and changing back file permissions :-)

  • anyone interested in a photo-tale of the disk installation ?
  • I did also manage to save my SUSE’s package sources for YaST … that was the less painful thing I did :-) You just have to save the /var/adm/YaST/InstSrcManager/ content somewhere and restore it to the original position and there you go!
