More than one in these pages I’ve talked about the Fedora Artwork team to enhance the graphics in future Fedora Core releases.
The main goal at the moment is to drive away from the Bluecurve iconset which is present in RedHat/Fedora since (AFAIK) Red-Hat 8 (or was it 9? can’t remember). So various artist are at work on this subject, and the iconset is being called echo. Some strong comments are being spoken on that, but at the moment that’s not my interest of discussion.
If you had the time/courage/opportunity to download && install Fedora Core 6 test2 maybe you have seen a glimpse of it. But for the rest of us who haven’t ?
Scenario A: Sometime you go to the Echo development page in the Fedora Project wiki.
Scenario B: You can download and install it in your KDE or Gnome session
Here’s how.
You can download from:
http://people.redhat.com/dfong/icons/echo_0.2.tar
This Echo icon theme as ready to use with kde and gnome, is built on 2006-08-29. As you can see from EchoDevelopment, a lot of icons have been added.
The small icons (16×16, 24×24) are not as complete as the large ones and thus some of them are actually a re-sized version of the corresponding large one, which you can tell from the perspective.
This is built using icon-naming-utils-0.8.1. So if an icon is not in tango spec it’s not included.
Please provide feedback to our artists!
(Thanks to Leon which has notified it in the fedora-art mailing list!)
UPDATE = just 40 minutes ago Diana Fong has sent out this e-mail to the list:
There’s been some question as to whether Echo should be included in FC6.
I was told this afternoon that Echo will not be the default icon theme in FC6. While we’ve made a lot of progress in the last four weeks, the coverage is still lacking and almost all of the 16×16 (+many of the 24×24) versions are still missing. It will, however, be included in Extras for those that are interested.
I'm kOoLiNuS and I'm from Italy and I thought it can be fun to jump on to the "international" blogosphere, so here we are ;-)
