FoX desktop

Some posts ago i’ve talked briefly about the FoX Desktop Linux distribution.

Now i’d like to put in evidence (again) the 2 minutes screencasting video of the Lite version made by LinClips {macromedia’s flash plugin required}.

This notice comes from my acknoledgment that in 15 days after the release date the Professional edition has reached the noticeable number of 170035 (and counting) downloads from the GARR mirror.

I think it’s also the case to remember that FoX Desktop is made up against Fedora Core 4, and that the Professional edition features:

  • Kernel Linux 2.6.15 with many built-in driversi: NTFS, ndiswrapper, Ati Radeon, NVidia GeForce …
  • KDE 3.5.1 desktop environment with an updated graphics and new customized commands
  • release build against the most updated packages available for Fedora CORE 4
  • all the bugs from the Lite release (which the video refers to) have been resolved
  • Gnome has been included
  • the new technologies introduced withFedora CORE 5 have been included too: Mono, Beagle, F-Spot, TomBoy
  • new CPU scaling governor
  • FoXPowerUP and Control Center “pimped up”
  • some new channels for extra software and updates, “certified” from FoXLinux Team has been introduced
  • now you can add the installation DVD of FoX Desktop as a Smart channel
  • full support to ANY languages (as on FC project)
  • increased speed

If you want to test it out you can start the download procedures here.
