Someday ago I was commenting an “old” post of my italian blog regarding PDFview, a free (as in beer) software alternative to the memory hog Adobe Reader has come today, expecially for those running a no more state of the art hardware or simply with “normal” RAM equipment.
In that comment I wrote that the PDFview software had closed it’s development cycle and that his creators were suggesting to their audience to move on and try the new born project, codename: SKIM. So I took the chance to download and install it on both my Mac (a MacBook and a 2001’s PowerMac) and try it.
I have to say it works fine, even being a 0.6 release, even if I did not had the chance to test the most interesting features of it, like annotations or the possibility to create a “summary” page (in Skim and PDF format) from copying and pasting content from the original document.
The software’s features are quite nice, expecially those below in a “professional” enviroment:
- Convenient reading in full screen
- Giving powerful presentations
- Handy preview of internal links
- Extensive AppleScript support
- Support for Apple Remote Control
- Spotlight support
So what are you waiting for ? Download and try it !
