It’s been a while since I posted something in this Linklog category of the blog. While not all the topics on the next issues will be topical, I am sure you’ll find some good stuff, that’ll make you thing over the topics they talk about. Here’s today selection…

Academicons, a font icon set for academics

Academicons (20160406)

For working reasons I had to work on a project at work were for each researcher I had to link a ‘social’ profile, not on Facebook or other popular – consumer – networks, but for some specialized ones … like ReaserchGate, Google Scholar, Mendeley, etc.. If you’re into academics you know them. Here is Academicons

With a bit of luck I found a GitHub project by James Walsh, a post-doctoral researcher, were he made and collected a series of font icons – 100% compatible with the more famous FontAwesome that solved my need with few lines of code.

the BORN font

Born font, download

Born font is a humanistic typeface that is based on traditional calligraphic forms, but with some new features in its endings, strokes and drops, that provide a more open, fresh and actual look. It also has a big X height, so it offers a high legibility even at small sizes. Download it at the price of a tweet (or a post on Facebook or LinkedIn) clicking on the image above!

Jura typeface

Jura (Typeface)

Jura is a elegant serif typeface of narrow proportions with distinguishing details. The rounded, wedge shaped serifs offer a more contemporary feels than many serif fonts, while maintaining legibility even at small sizes.

This new release of the Jura family includes four fonts: Regular; Italic; Bold & Bold-Italic. Each variant now includes 241 characters (that’s 85 more than the original) and every glyph has been completely redrawn. There’s even a couple of ligatures in there.

Metrics and kerning have been rebuilt from scratch (although if you spot a bit of spacing which looks odd, let me know I’ll do my best to sort it out).
